The youth of Jammu and Kashmir’s Baramulla area accomplished a stunning feat by setting a world record for the largest-ever performance of a Kashmiri folk dance. This unprecedented event, held during the ‘Kashur Riwaaj’ cultural event, drew a startling 10,000 young women.

The official Instagram account of All India Radio News posted a video of the participants who participated in the dance on social media. They further stated that the event was planned by the Dagger Division of the Indian Army, the Punit Balan Group, and the Baramulla District Administrative Agency.

“The Defence Spokesperson stated that the major event effectively united the youth of Kashmir, celebrated their cultural heritage, and instilled a sense of pride and solidarity that will last for years. All India Radio News said that the event was held in Baramulla as well as at numerous nominated schools.

Last year, Kudumbashree, an all-woman network from Kerala, arranged a big Thiruvathira dance performance at Kuttanellur Government College, setting a global record. On the college campus, 7,027 Kudumbashree members came together to perform the ancient group dance form. This dance form is most commonly performed during the Onam festival in the Malayalam month of Chingam, but it is also occasionally performed in the month of Dhanu.

Because of the large number of participants, the giant “Thiruvathirakali” (Thiruvathira dance) was featured in the Limca Book of Records and Talent Book. The organisers are currently considering submitting an entry to the Guinness Book of World Records.

Revenue Minister K Rajan commended Kudumbashree, the world’s largest women’s network, as an example of women’s empowerment while also highlighting the network’s standing. The municipal corporation, tourism department, and district government worked together to plan the district’s Onam celebrations.
