Aitana Bonmati was delighted that 2024 got off to the greatest start for her. Aitana Bonmati has been crowned women’s footballer of the year at The Best FIFA Awards for 2023.
In order to earn the prize, Bonmati narrowly defeated Linda Caicedo and Jennifer Hermoso. The other two finalists, Linda and Jennifer, scored 40 and 36 points, respectively, while Bonmati scored 52 points.
After taking first place, Bonmati gave the trophy to FC Barcelona and the Spanish national team.
“A few weeks ago, as 2023 drew to an end, I felt sentimental since it was a remarkable and unforgettable year that I will never forget. It is amazing to receive this award to begin 2024. However, I owe it to the teams I played for, including the national team and Barcelona. Bonmati was cited as saying, “I owe it to the seasons we had.”
Without my teammates, neither would I be holding this award here nor would I have developed into the player I am today. I sincerely appreciate your help. She remarked, “I will always be appreciative to everyone who has supported me along the journey, including my family and friends.”
“Let me start by congratulating each and every nominee. Furthermore, I want to express my pride in being a member of a strong female generation that is rewriting both the game’s and the world’s laws,” continued Bonmati.
The Spanish squad that won the FIFA Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand last year included Bonmati. After scoring three goals in seven games to help herself win the Golden Ball, Bonmati showed her best. Spain defeated England in the championship match to win the major event.
After leading Barcelona to triumph in the UEFA Women’s Champions League, Liga F, and Supercopa de Espana Femenina, Bonmati went on to win three more major championships in 2023.
