Ranchi — In a passionate appeal to uphold artistic integrity and storytelling freedom, citizens of Ranchi have come together to write to the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) Chairman, Prasoon Joshi, urging him to approve the upcoming film Santosh without any cuts.
The locally shot and emotionally charged film has resonated strongly with the community for its bold narrative and social relevance. Many residents believe that Santosh sheds light on crucial issues often left unspoken in mainstream cinema.
“We see ourselves in this story. It’s raw, real, and important. Censoring it would be a disservice not just to art, but to the truth,” said Aarti Sharma, a local school teacher and one of the signatories of the letter.
The letter, which was circulated among local cultural groups and colleges, has garnered significant support. Over 500 citizens signed the petition, emphasizing their right to unfiltered cinema and the importance of preserving the film’s original message.
The film, directed by Sandhya Suri, is set against the backdrop of rural India and explores themes of justice, trauma, and resilience. After receiving international recognition at film festivals, Santosh is now under review by the CBFC for its Indian theatrical release.
“We believe Mr. Prasoon Joshi, as a lyricist and artist himself, will understand the need to let the film speak in its full voice,” said Rahul Ekka, a member of a Ranchi-based film appreciation society.
The CBFC has not yet responded to the petition. Meanwhile, the movement in Ranchi is gaining attention across social media platforms, with hashtags like #ClearSantosh and #SupportSantosh trending regionally.
As anticipation builds, the people of Ranchi are standing firm in their demand: Let Santosh be seen as it was meant to be — honest, powerful, and uncensored.
