While Harmeet Dhillon has been reported to be a possible replacement for McDaniel, insiders have informed the POST that Donald Trump is more likely to promote Michael Whatley to RNC head.
Ronna McDaniel, chair of the Republican National Committee (RNC), may step down shortly. According to two people familiar with her plans, McDaniel informed former President Donald Trump that she intended to retire following the South Carolina Republican presidential primary on February 24, according to the New York Post.
While there are suggestions that Harmeet Kaur Dhillon, the former vice chairwoman of the California Republican Party, may succeed McDaniel, sources told the POST that Trump is more likely to choose North Carolina GOP chair Michael Whatley as RNC chairman.
Prior to the 2024 US presidential elections, Republican frontrunner Donald Trump has demanded changes and new leadership at the Republican National Committee.
According to Fox News, the former president met with McDaniel on Monday at his Mar-a-Lago mansion in Palm Beach, Florida.
Following the debate, Trump claimed on his Truth Social platform that McDaniel was a “friend,” but that he will fight for changes at the Republican National Committee following the GOP presidential primary in South Carolina.
“Ronna is now Head of the RNC, and I’ll be making a decision the day after the South Carolina Primary as to my recommendations for RNC Growth,” the president of the United States said.
McDaniel, who assumed office in 2017, has faced criticism for the GOP’s financial troubles and recurrent election losses since 2020, prompting demands for her resignation.
As news of McDaniel’s impending departure spread on social media, numerous X users rushed to inquire if Dhillon would replace her.

Dhillon responds to the many versions of RNC Game of Thrones.
Harmeet Dhillon revealed on X (previously Twitter) that she is “not seeking” to replace McDaniel, saying that “each version of RNC Game of Thrones I hear is worse than the last one.”
“To be clear, I am not interested in the chair post. We held an election, and I lost. I shook the winner’s hand and offered my support. But there are lots of people vying for it. I am content with my current situation. “I love the law!” she said.
Last year, Dhillon competed against McDaniel for the position. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis supported her, although Dhillon received just 51 votes from committee members, less than half of McDaniel’s 111 total.
Meanwhile, Dublin Scott Lucas, a professor of international politics at University College, told Newsweek that while Dhillon may be unsure of her ability to defeat McDaniel, she took this decision because “she just doesn’t want to get involved in the mess.”
Who is Harmeet Dhillon?
Harmeet Dhillon, born in Chandigarh, moved to the United States with her family to escape India’s “Russian-style socialism,” she told Dartmouth Alumni Magazine in 2013. They lived in London before making the permanent transfer to the United States.
In a 2013 interview with the San Francisco Chronicle, Dhillon said that she had an arranged marriage but fled her husband, who nearly “beat me to death,” to attend the University of Virginia School of Law. Later, she married Sarvjit Randhawa, a retired nuclear engineer.
As a lawyer, Dhillon has handled cases regarding intellectual property, employment discrimination, unfair competition, trade secret misappropriation, and civil rights. She also reviews situations involving election and campaign law.
In 2006, she founded the ‘Dhillon Law Group’ and became involved in “conservative activism.”
In 2013, Dhillon was appointed to the California Republican Party board of directors. In 2016, she was selected as an RNC national committeewoman.
Dhillon delivered a speech at Trump’s “Social Media Summit” on July 11, 2019. She co-chairs the Women for Trump organisation.
During the 2020 COVID epidemic in California, Dhillon filed petitions challenging stay-at-home orders. She has also filed lawsuits against subpoenas issued for Trump in connection with the Capitol disturbances, as well as on behalf of Trump supporters who claim police failed to protect them during the demonstration.
What are the tasks of the RNC?
The Republican National Committee (RNC) is the primary committee of the Republican Party in the United States.
The RNC’s primary goal is to help the Republican Party. It helps advance the Republican political programme and the “party brand” or image. It makes it easier to develop electoral strategies and raise funds.
According to The Washington Post, the RNC statutes include two required duties: convening a national convention to select candidates for president and vice president, and hosting two yearly meetings for the RNC member body over which the chair presides.
