Trump Threatens to Review Federal Subsidies to Elon Musk-Owned Companies

In a statement posted Tuesday on his social media platform, Truth Social, Trump alleged that Musk “receives more subsidy money than any human in history” and called for a review of the financial support his companies receive from the federal government. Trump hinted at involving the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) to conduct the investigation.

“Perhaps we should have DOGE take a good, hard look at this,” Trump posted. “Big money to be saved!”

The former president further claimed that without federal support, Musk would be forced to leave the United States, writing, “Elon would probably have to close up shop and head back home to South Africa.”

The comments come amid increasing tension between Trump and Musk over a Republican-backed tax and spending package, which Musk recently criticized. Musk, who has publicly opposed the bill, also hinted at supporting primary challenges against lawmakers who vote for it.

In response to Trump’s threat, Musk wrote on X (formerly Twitter), “CUT IT ALL. Now,” signaling he would not oppose the withdrawal of subsidies.

Tesla shares dropped sharply following the exchange, falling over 6% in early trading on Tuesday. SpaceX, which holds multiple federal contracts valued in the billions, has not issued a public response.

The situation marks an escalation in the ongoing conflict between the two high-profile figures and raises questions about the future of federal support for clean energy, aerospace, and technology companies.
