After being rescued from the flaming apartment by police and firemen and sent to a private hospital in Sector-38 for treatment, investigators named the dead as Ranu Sah.
Police stated on Sunday that the 59-year-old lady died from serious burn injuries after her mentally challenged son reportedly struck her in the head with an iron before lighting their apartment on fire.
After being rescued from the flaming apartment by police and firemen and sent to a private hospital in Sector-38 for treatment, investigators named the dead as Ranu Sah. Sah passed away early on Sunday, they said.
The event happened on Saturday night at an expensive condominium on Sohna Road, Sector-48, at flat number 401 of Tower-3.
Officials from the fire department reported that two tenders from the Sector-29 fire station were dispatched to the scene after they got a fire alarm at 11:19 p.m. on Saturday. One of the apartment’s three bedrooms was entirely destroyed by fire, according to a senior fire department officer.
In a different bedroom, we also discovered the son, who admitted to setting the flat on fire when questioned. We didn’t respond much at the moment since our main priorities were putting out the fire and rescuing everyone who was trapped inside. Within thirty minutes, the fire was contained,” he stated.
Inspector Arjun Dev, the station house officer of the Gurugram Sadar police station, stated that they broke through one of the two entry doors since the flat was locked from the inside.
He stated, “The woman was lying injured and unconscious on the floor of the bedroom which her son had set on fire.” He also said that the neighbors had called the police and fire service after noticing smoke coming from the windows.
According to Dev, Sah’s kid was around 26 years old and had an aggressive disposition. “He had beaten his mother during an altercation two to three days prior and again on Saturday morning. Although a police team had arrived at the location just 12 hours prior to the fire, she had asked for assistance on Dial-112 but had declined to bring any charges against him. He admitted to us that he had resentment toward his mother going back a while. At last on Saturday night, he ignited the clothing and documents stored in the bedroom, quickly consuming the entire space,” he remarked.
Kapil Ahlawat, assistant commissioner of police in Gurugram Sadar, stated that the inquiry revealed the woman’s kid had a mental disability. It was discovered that he had stopped taking his prescription a few days prior, according to the physicians who treated him in the city and who were called.
For the previous 16–17 years, he was constantly monitored by a doctor. At the time of the occurrence, his father, retired senior executive Ashish Sah from an IT firm, was in Kolkata for personal business. We’ve spoken with him. Any additional action would be taken until once he returns, which is anticipated to happen by Sunday night or Monday, he stated.
The couple’s kid was reportedly living with some volunteers at the moment, and the investigators indicated that the doctor had advised him to resume taking his medicine. They explained that once the deceased woman’s husband returned, the apartment would be locked, the body would be held at a morgue, and an autopsy would be performed.
