Star of Heeramandi Jayati Bhatia talks about how she can move on from being criticized for her performance alongside co-star Sharmin Segal.
The actor Sharmin Segal has come under fire for her role in the film Heeramandi, directed by her uncle Sanjay Leela Bhansali. Her co-star Jayati Bhatia, who portrayed Phatto Bi in the web series, has now come out in her favor, telling her that she needs to advance in her profession.
During an interview with ABP’s Entertainment Live, Jayati addressed the controversy surrounding her show. She also gave her counsel, advising her to follow the principle of “less is more” moving ahead.
Jayati Supported the Sharmin.
Jayati was questioned about the controversy surrounding Sharmin’s appearance on the broadcast during the interview.
This is a crucial time in both her life and career. She will only get better after this. This is the first thing she has done; she has completed Malaal, but she has worked here under Mr. Bhansali’s supervision and instruction. She needs to show herself now,” she remarked.
In this instance, Jayati spoke up for Sharmin, stating that she approached her role differently since some performers believe it will become overwhelming if they do too much. She continued by saying that it’s possible Sharmin believed a less-is-more strategy was preferable.
Sharmin now has to, in Jayati’s opinion, look forward and establish herself in her next endeavor.
“She cannot rely on (the same acting style) in her next work.” She needs to go over this and show people while sticking to the narrative. She must now put forth more effort. She is our sweetheart, but I am really fond of and protective of her because I trained her for her first movie. She continued, saying, “As a teacher, I can tell that she has to set the criticism aside and concentrate on her skill moving forward.
Sharmin Faces the heat
Sharmin plays Mallikajaan’s daughter Alamzeb in the show, which is portrayed by Manisha Koirala.
Her performance has been the talk of the town ever since it was released, and some social media users have been speculating whether she was cast due of her close relationship with Sanjay. “Sharmin Sehgal’s poor acting abilities were overshadowed by her excessive screen time. She has no acting ability. The entire experience was spoiled by her poor grammar and lack of expressiveness, a social media user commented. In fact, a lot of jokes mocking Sharmin’s performance are also making the rounds on social media.
A number of her co-stars have shown their support, including Shruti Mahajan, the casting director of the program.
Many people found her acting and voice appealing. She looks new and adds freshness to the cast, they say. Some claim that she doesn’t appear to be a member of the courtesan or Heeramandi worlds. However, that was only a short. It was all about her feeling like a misfit and not fitting in with the world. Shruti said to HT, “That’s what we kept in mind. What you see is the cast of Heeramandi, and I am very proud of it.”
The Netflix series is set against the backdrop of the Indian independence movement and highlights the conflict that existed between the British Raj authorities and the courtesans in Lahore’s Heeramandi red-light district. Sonakshi Sinha, Aditi Rao Hydari, Richa Chadha, Sanjeeda Shaikh, Fardeen Khan, Taha Shah Badussha, and Shekhar Suman are among the other actors who appear in it.
