Delhi, India – In a significant development after nearly a decade-long search, the Delhi Police have successfully apprehended a 28-year-old woman who had been evading authorities since 2017 in connection with the abduction, rape, and forced marriage of a 15-year-old girl. The arrest brings a crucial step forward in a case that has lingered for years, highlighting the persistent efforts of law enforcement in pursuing justice for victims of heinous crimes.
The alleged crime unfolded on November 1, 2017, when the young victim was reportedly abducted from her residence in Bharatlal, Delhi. Investigations revealed the involvement of the arrested woman, along with her husband Kishan Pal and another individual identified as Dinesh. The minor was subsequently taken to a village in Uttar Pradesh, where she was allegedly subjected to illegal confinement, repeated sexual assault, and coerced into a marriage against her will.
Following the registration of a formal complaint by the girl’s father on November 2, 2017, the Delhi Police swiftly acted, leading to the arrest of Kishan Pal and Dinesh. However, the woman managed to abscond, becoming a proclaimed offender declared by a special POCSO court in Dwarka in July 2019.
The breakthrough in the long-standing case came through diligent intelligence gathering, culminating in a raid by a dedicated Crime Branch team on the woman’s native village in the Sambhal district of Uttar Pradesh. Displaying a determined effort to evade capture, the accused attempted to flee into the nearby agricultural fields but was ultimately apprehended after a brief chase by the pursuing officers.
“During the course of interrogation, the arrested woman confessed to her active role in the initial abduction, the subsequent illegal confinement of the minor victim, and the orchestration of her forced marriage,” a senior official within the Delhi Police stated.
The accused was presented before the relevant court on Thursday and has since been remanded to judicial custody, pending further legal proceedings. Authorities have disclosed that the woman, who is reported to be illiterate and originally from Junavi village in Budaun, had married Kishan Pal in 2015 and had purportedly adopted a false identity in an attempt to remain undetected by law enforcement agencies.
The victim in this deeply disturbing case was rescued earlier in the investigation. As the legal process moves forward, the Delhi Police have affirmed their commitment to ensuring justice for the survivor and holding all involved parties accountable for their actions.
