Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley, an Indian-American, has stated that, should she be elected, her government will fortify ties not only with NATO but also with a number of other nations, such as Australia, Japan, South Korea, Australia, and the Philippines. Former US Ambassador to the UN Haley, 52, stated that one of her concerns is a potential threat to the NATO relationship should former US President Donald Trump be re-elected.
“If Trump wins reelection, a lot of things worry me. That is among them, she said to ABC News, citing NATO’s seventy-five-year history of achievement.
In the fight for the Republican Party’s 2024 presidential candidacy, Haley is the sole remaining contender facing Trump.
Russia has never attacked a NATO nation, according to Haley, the two-term former governor of South Carolina, since Russia has usually felt greatly terrified by this alliance.
With two North American and 29 European members, the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) is an intergovernmental military alliance.
This alliance intimidates even China. Thus, Haley stated, maintaining NATO’s strength is crucial.
In response to a query regarding Trump’s statements made in South Carolina a week prior, in which he said he would urge Russia to do “whatever the hell they want” to any NATO member nation that doesn’t adhere to defence budget caps, Haley provided her thoughts.
It’s critical to include additional friends in the fold. The moment is not right to break off an alliance. According to Haley, now is not the moment to support friends who remained loyal to America in the wake of the September 11 attacks, and instead, support a thug.
“We must ensure that we maintain our position. Because when we stick by our friends, our adversaries follow closely after. Our enemy moves when we begin to show any signs of eroding such connections. China is on the march because of this. That explains Iran’s desire to develop a nuclear weapon. Because of this, Russia is beginning to approach Poland and the Baltic states,” the speaker stated.
“And as president, I swear to reinforce not just NATO but also our partnerships with the Philippines, South Korea, Japan, Australia, and India. We intend to expand the fold. Answering a query, Haley stated, “This is about America having more friends, not less friends.”
Haley referred to Trump’s remarks at NATO as “bone-chilling” and said they gave Russian President Vladimir Putin more influence.
“And all he did in that moment was, he sided with a guy who kills his political opponents, he sided with a thug who arrests American journalists and holds them hostage,” she continued.
Haley claimed that Democratic incumbent President Joe Biden has likewise failed miserably on several fronts.
It gives our adversaries more confidence. That explains why they are in motion. It took place subsequent to Afghanistan’s collapse. It keeps happening. Subsequently, they go and see that the other opponent is not concerned about Putin invading Ukraine; he is campaigning for president. Thus, how does Putin act? After leaving, he begins to station forces along the Baltic Sea. She remarked, “He’s moving in for the next chapter.
Remind the American people that Putin declared that Poland and the Baltics would follow once he conquers Ukraine. He is now encircling those nations with troops, just like he did with Ukraine. And they are NATO nations if that occurs. That declares war on America right away. That is our goal in avoiding it. And for that reason, this aid package is crucial,” the speaker stated.
