During a rally against rape and murder in Kolkata, a guy flashes a woman, causing anger before the police release him. Protesters want authorities to take responsibility and provide justice.
A lady was flashed on Sunday during a demonstration in Kolkata, amid widespread anger over the murder and rape of a West Bengal trainee doctor.
India Today reports that a guy allegedly exposed himself to a female demonstrator at the Esplanade crossing during the incident. According to witnesses, a few demonstrators saw the man in the act and called the local police.
The audience became enraged when police revealed that the man was a local citizen with mental health problems and let him go. Following demonstrators’ calls for the accused to face quick consequences, a case was eventually filed under Section 79 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). According to the article, authorities have started an investigation and are looking through CCTV evidence to find the culprit.
The protest was called in reaction to the horrifying event that occurred at R.G. Kar Medical College and Hospital, where the victim’s body was found on August 9. Protesters, demanding justice and responsibility, gathered outside the office of the Deputy Commissioner of Police, triggered by this most recent harassment episode.
During their protests, protesters voiced their worries about women’s safety and stated that they shouldn’t be harassed, especially in big groups. They demanded prompt and decisive action to safeguard the safety and dignity of every person taking part in nonviolent demonstrations. West Bengal police declared on Sunday that they will not tolerate any offenses against women. The police said in a statement that “severe legal action will be taken against offenders as well as those spreading misinformation.”
