Regarding the Miss Arunachal event, the Arunachal Pradesh Women’s Welfare Society (APWWS) has expressed grave concerns, bringing to light concerns about participant safety, dignity, and equitable treatment. The Youth Affairs Directorate is being urged by the society to take urgent action to resolve these issues.

Concerns over participant safety, dignity, and equitable treatment are among the major concerns expressed by the Arunachal Pradesh Women’s Welfare Society (APWWS) regarding the Miss Arunachal event. The Director of Youth Affairs, Ramesh Linggi, met with a group from APWWS to go over the administration of the event and get important information.

According to Linggi, the Chief Minister’s Talent Hunt program saw an increase in funding in 2019 of Rs 80 lakhs for the event. On the other hand, claims of poor management and underpaid incentives have become contentious.

Even though the organizing committee received a payment of Rs 10 lakh in October 2023, former Miss Arunachal Tengam Celine Koyu stated that her rewards had not been paid. After raising concerns about the incentive payment procedure, the APWWS team discovered that while a recommendation is needed to validate claims, an NOC is not.

The lack of internal complaint committees, as required by law, and the absence of anti-harassment terms in the MOU for the event also concerned the society. They recommended designating a female nodal officer to serve as the chair of these committees for state events about women.

APWWS is now requesting that the Youth Affairs Directorate take prompt action. Their requests include the creation of a monitoring panel to supervise women’s events, the expeditious transfer of outstanding money, and an unbiased investigation into accusations made against the organizers.

In addition, the organization emphasized the need to establish best practices in state event management and suggested using Direct Benefit Transfer as an incentive.
