Two ladies from the infamous Oji Kuppam gang of thieves and dacoits, who are the subject of several cases in the city, have been taken into custody by the city police.

The two ladies allegedly used to board packed Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) buses, divert people’s attention, and take their gold jewelry. From the two people who were detained, the police seized 899 grams of gold jewelry that was valued at over ₹80 lakh.

Investigating a report in which a woman from K.R. Puram lost 156 grams of gold jewelry while riding a BMTC bus, the city police examined video from many CCTV cameras and found the two ladies in a resort in Gandhinagar. Their gang affiliation was Oji Kuppam. The two women’s homes included 44 grams of purloined gold jewelry, according to the police, but they also found 855 grams of gold jewelry that the ladies had pledged to a private bank in Tamil Nadu’s Tirupathur district.

The city police claim that by apprehending the pair, they have resolved eight recent incidents of gold jewelry theft from BMTC buses. These comprise two instances in Mahadevapura, four cases in K.R. Puram police station boundaries, and one case in each of the police station limits of Yeshwantpur and Ramamurthynagar.
