Malia Ann, a recent Hollywood arrival, is the elder daughter of a well-known American couple. In an attempt to start again as a person and a filmmaker, she made the decision to give up her last name.
The eldest child of former US president and first lady Barack and Michelle Obama, Malia Ann is truly Malia Obama. The young Obama chose to use her middle name instead of her last name for her most recent film endeavour, “The Heart”. Malia’s pen name was disclosed in the “Meet the Artist” highlight video from the Sundance Institute, introducing her as Malia Ann-filmmaker, at the same time as her Hollywood career was taking off.
It is believed that she is making this step to put herself apart from the influential Obamas, who likewise began their careers in entertainment in 2018 with the founding of their production company, “Higher Ground Productions.”

Earlier this month, Malia Obama, then 25 years old, made her red carpet debut as Malia Ann at the 2024 Sundance Film Festival. She was present for her “The Heart” debut.
Remarkably, the Obamas, who are now successful movie producers, skipped the 2024 Sundance Film Festival.

In her Sundance spotlight, Malia Ann characterised her project as “an odd little story, somewhat of fable, about a man grieving the death of his mother after she leaves him an unusual request in her will.”
Malia is directing the film “The Heart” for the first time; it was produced by Donald Glover’s firm Gilga.
Malia Obama’s prior employment
Despite being Malia’s first try at directing, the Obama child has experience writing, having worked as a staff writer on Glover’s Amazon Prime series “Swarm.”

Malia had received praise on several occasions throughout her career in the film business.
Swarm co-creator and Malia’s coworker Janine Nabers reportedly stated that “she’s a very professional person” in a January 2023 Vanity Fair interview, according to E News. “She’s an incredible writer and artist.”
The Harvard graduate has also received praise from Donald Glover, who pointed out that her well-known parents had no bearing on how she was handled on set. In March 2022, he told Vanity Fair, “I feel like she’s just somebody who’s gonna have really good things coming soon.” “I really like the way she writes. She is the daughter of the [previous] President, therefore we cannot treat her lightly.”
