Tata Power-led Odisha Discoms have given contracts worth Rs 11,481 crore to local contractors and suppliers, according to an official.
The joint ventures between Tata electricity and the Odisha government have placed orders worth Rs 8,690 crore with local MSMEs and Rs 2,791 crore with non-MSMEs in the three years after taking over the state’s electricity distribution operations.
These contracts, which fall under two primary categories: materials and services, have been allocated to local contractors and suppliers.
The Odisha distribution companies – TP Central, TP Southern, TP Northern, and TP Western Odisha Distribution Limited – have reached agreements with 6,645 local merchants and suppliers, according to an official.
According to a corporate statement, these creative partnerships serve as the foundation for day-to-day operations and services, with a particular emphasis on encouraging local suppliers to hire residents from adjacent regions.
The discoms have granted contracts to 4,347 vendors for services such as metre reading, billing, and network maintenance, totalling Rs 7,560 crore.
Similarly, under the materials supply category, which includes distribution transformers, cables, poles, and others, the discoms have awarded 2,298 contracts worth Rs 3,921 crore for their operations.
Materials contracts cover important components such as distribution transformers, cables, poles, LT and HT gear, laptops, and desktops.
Contracts in the service industry involve a wide range of tasks, including metre installation, invoicing, collection, call centre operations, metre reading, and administrative roles like housekeeping and catering.
