Amid political unrest in her nation, Saima Wazed, the daughter of former Bangladesh prime minister Sheikh Hasina, voiced her sorrow at not being able to meet her mother. In a post on X, Wazed stated, “I’m devastated by the deaths in my beloved nation. I am so devastated that I am unable to embrace and see my mother at this trying moment.

Additionally, Saima Wazed confirmed her dedication to her position as Southeast Asia division’s regional director for the World Health Organization. 

Consequences of resignation

Sheikh Hasina submitted her resignation as prime minister on Monday, following overwhelming calls for her resignation from students. Three hundred individuals, including members of the security forces, were killed in clashes between the demonstrators and the government. She left Dhaka, fearing for her life, and sought sanctuary in New Delhi.

Sheikh Hasina left Dhaka on a military plane, and her son Sajeeb Wazed Joy said she intends to remain in Delhi until she decides where to apply for asylum.In an interview with NDTV, Hasina’s son said, “She worked so hard to turn Bangladesh into a developed country over the last 15 years, keeping it safe from militants and as well as from terrorism.” “But despite all of that, this vocal minority, the opposition, the militants have now seized power.”

Days after the parliament was dissolved and leaders of the student movement, the military, and the opposition reached an agreement, Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus is scheduled to take office as head of the temporary government on Thursday. “Our opponent is violence. Don’t make any more enemies, please. Keep your cool and prepare to create the nation, Yunus said.
