A lady from Jersey has been providing support to young people worldwide who have been diagnosed with cancer. After becoming unwell in 2020, Antonia Rubio was diagnosed with thyroid cancer at the age of 24. She obtained more than 18,000 followers on TikTok by sharing her experience with treatments on social media and how they influenced her life

Because of her efforts to help individuals in countries like Australia and America and to educate young people about cancer, Ms. Rubio has been nominated for a BBC Jersey Make a Difference Award. Molly Ralston met Ms. Rubio on social networking while receiving treatment for Hodgkin’s lymphoma in the United States.

While it had “been a very long, difficult road,” she acknowledged that Ms. Rubio’s tweets had made a difference in helping people, particularly younger girls like herself, feel less alone.”Seeing someone my age go through something similar inspires me because it shows that if she can do it, I can do it too,” Ms. Ralston continued. To complete her cancer treatment, Ms. Ralston is receiving a bone marrow transplant at the hospital.

Ms. Rubio works with organizations like the Teenage Cancer Trust and CLIC Sargent to support other young people afflicted by cancer, and she has been in remission for more than six months. According to her, the nomination came as “such a shock to me” and was also an acknowledgment of “anyone who helped me on my journey.” “I have developed a community of people battling cancer and I speak to people every single day in Australia and America,” Ms. Rubio continued. Additionally, she added that watching a video of someone discussing their cancer diagnosis “saved my life” and that it “brings me joy” to know that she “may have saved the lives of others.”

Caron Rubio put her daughter forward for a Make a Difference Award nomination. She said that her daughter has “made such a difference to thousands of people and she continues to do so” and that she was “so inspired” by her. “I would not wish for anyone to learn that their daughter has cancer, and Antonia makes me proud every day,” she continued. In September, the BBC Radio Jersey Make a Difference Awards winner will be revealed.
