Police have detained a guy for allegedly raping a 51-year-old Kazakhstani woman who was being treated at a private hospital after arthroscopic surgery, officials said on Tuesday.

Thakur Singh (24), the accused, worked as an attendant at Artemis Hospital, according to authorities. According to authorities, the incident occurred on Sunday morning when Singh reportedly raped the victim while she was sedated.

The woman was admitted to the hospital on July 9, and she underwent surgery on Saturday. She was subsequently taken to the hospital ward, where she was accompanied by her daughter, they added.

On Sunday morning, the woman’s daughter saw Singh with her mother and alerted authorities. Police detained Singh based on her complaint, according to reports.

A spokeswoman for Artemis Hospital stated that the safety of their patients is their top priority, and they will cooperate with authorities to conduct a fair and impartial inquiry.

Meanwhile, Singh is temporarily out of service, and the patient was discharged on Monday, according to the spokeswoman. An FIR was filed against Singh under Section 64 (2) (e) (rape) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. He was brought before the city court on Monday and taken into judicial detention, according to police.

Police said that further investigation is underway.
