Mimi Chakraborty posted screen grabs of hateful remarks she got in response to an Instagram post she made in support of the protesters in Kolkata.

Mimi Chakraborty, a Bengali actress and former MP for the Trinamool Congress, stated that she has been the target of internet rape threats because she supported the doctors’ protests in Kolkata. 

Mimi Chakraborty shared screenshots from her social media account on platform X, claiming to have been inundated with similar threatening messages lately. And we’re calling for women to receive justice, correct? These are only a handful of them. where hostile guys disguising themselves in the crowd and declaring their support for women have normalized threats of rape. What education and upbringing allow this???? Mimi Chakraborty posted on X, tagging the Kolkata Police’s cybercrime branch.

Senior physicians have been staging nationwide demonstrations to call for justice for the postgraduate trainee physician who was brutally raped and killed at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital by a volunteer, Sanjoy Roy. Even while emergency services are still available, protests have caused disruptions to outpatient medical treatments and operations around the nation.

The Federation of Resident Physicians Association (FORDA) applauded the Supreme Court’s creation of a task group to recommend safety measures for medical professionals but stated that any decision to halt the strike would only be made after consulting with the physicians who were protesting. In response to the highest court’s involvement, all resident physician associations met, according to FORDA’s statement, although the talks on the next steps remained unresolved.

A guy from Purba Bardhaman district in West Bengal was taken into custody by police after he reportedly threatened a female doctor in Kolkata with the same fate as the deceased doctor, following a gruesome rape and murder that occurred days prior. The woman doctor was allegedly intimidated by the man for being late for her appointment. “Have you seen the events at the hospital run by RG Kar Medical College? You may experience that too,” he informed the on-call physician.

A district health official told PTI that the patient reportedly threatened to have the same treatment as the lady doctor at R G Kar Hospital in Kolkata if the attending physician did not treat him appropriately.
