According to a request that Angelina Jolie filed with the Los Angeles Superior Court, she attempted to sell Pitt a portion of a couple’s French winery, Miraval, but the talks broke down when Pitt demanded that she sign a non-disclosure agreement (NDA).

New Delhi: American actress Angelina Jolie claims that before the 2016 aircraft incident, Brad Pitt mistreated her, which eventually led to the breakdown of their marriage. According to a filing obtained by CNN, Jolie filed a motion to the Los Angeles Superior Court on Thursday, claiming that she attempted to sell Pitt her share of a couple’s French winery, Miraval, but the negotiations broke down when Pitt insisted that she sign a non-disclosure agreement (NDA), which forbade Jolie from speaking about Pitt’s abuse of her and their children outside of court.

The latest event started when Pitt filed a lawsuit in 2022, claiming that he and Jolie had a deal not to sell their vineyard shares without each other’s approval. In her declaration, Jolie stated that Pitt’s history of physical violence predates the family’s September 2016 departure from France to Los Angeles.

“Jolie intends to demonstrate in court, via testimony, emails, photos, and other proof, why Pitt was so alarmed by his misbehavior and blew up his own deal to buy Jolie’s stake in Miraval—all because she wouldn’t sign his new, sweeping NDA,” the document stated.

American actress Jolie claims that as part of the deal to sell her stake in the winery, she first agreed to sign an NDA that was limited to not criticizing Miraval’s wine business. However, later on, Pitt pushed for a more comprehensive NDA that would have barred Jolie from speaking negatively about either party in public other than through the court.

When Ms. Jolie refused to be silenced by his NDA, Mr. Pitt declined to buy her stake. According to Jolie’s lawyer, “Mr. Pitt put directly at issue why that NDA was so important to him and what he hoped it would bury: his abuse of Ms. Jolie and their family” by refusing to buy her stake and then sued her.

The former couple bought the vineyard and estate of Miraval in the south of France in 2008. Regarding the property dispute, the legal actions are still in progress.

Jolie filed for divorce from Pitt in 2016, and they were eventually granted their divorce and are now regarded as separate people under the law in 2019.
