On Friday, an e-commerce company employee allegedly raped and assaulted a 19-year-old lady inside a high-rise community in Greater Noida when she answered the door to receive an order.
The woman had purchased milk and eggs via a mobile app in the morning and was alone at home when the delivery man arrived, according to the police. The offender, a resident of a Greater Noida Village, fled after committing the crime and was apprehended on Sunday after a gunfight, they claimed.
“Five teams were formed right away to investigate this.” The offender was apprehended in Khairpur, and when he arrived in Sector 3, he seized the government pistol and fled. According to Hirdesh Katheriya, ADCP, Central Noida, “immediate combing was done in Sector 3 and surrounding areas with the joint efforts of the police and SWAT teams.”
“During the search, the accused opened fire on the police party, intending to kill.” “The accused was shot in the leg when the police fired in self-defence,” Katheriya explained.
According to Katheriya, the firearm was retrieved from the accused during the gunfight. “The defendant was taken to the hospital for treatment.” The accused’s elder brother is a history-sheeter. The accused has previously been imprisoned for illegally selling liquor. His criminal record is being investigated,” he added.
A First Information Report (FIR) was filed at the local police station under Indian Penal Code (IPC) sections 376 (rape), 511 (attempting to commit offences punishable with life imprisonment or other imprisonment), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 452 (house-trespass after preparation for hurt, assault, or wrongful restraint), and 506 (criminal intimidation).
This tragedy serves as a sad reminder of the necessity for stronger delivery service safety measures, as well as the crucial importance of a responsive and accountable law enforcement system in dealing with such terrible acts. Our thoughts are with the victim, and we hope that justice is delivered quickly in this case, while also raising awareness about the importance of community safety and vigilance.
