Women from Telangana have traveled 68.60 crore miles in TGSRTC buses thanks to the Mahalakshmi initiative.
On July 25, Finance Minister Bhatti Vikramarka Mallu stated that Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC) is headed toward becoming a billion-dollar company thanks to government initiatives in the field of public transportation, such as the Mahalakshmi scheme, which offers free transportation to women on TGSRTC buses.
The State Finance Minister remarked, “The amount incurred by [TGS]RTC for providing free travel under this scheme is being reimbursed by the State Government every month,” when presenting the Budget for FY 2024–25 to the Telangana State Legislative Assembly. Additionally, this is assisting RTC in becoming a billion-dollar company.
Via the Mahalakshmi program, women from the State have traveled 68.60 crore miles in TGSRTC buses. Women have saved ₹2,351 crore as a result of this. Women in the State are ecstatic about this program. With this free travel option, they are fervently visiting tourist attractions, temples, friends, and family. He said that this plan is also indirectly boosting the state’s economy.
