A suicide explosion last week claimed the lives of five Chinese engineers along with their driver, a Pakistani national.

Five Chinese engineers were among the six people murdered in a suicide attack in the unrest-plagued region of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa one week ago. Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz said on Friday that Chinese nationals residing in Pakistan became “resentful” when urged to adhere to security measures.

During her first Apex Committee meeting here, Maryam Sharif, the daughter of three-time former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, claimed that “the Chinese living here do not want to follow security discipline.” Maryam is the first woman to hold the position of chief minister of a province in Pakistan.

When requested to adhere to security procedures, they get hostile. They worry about it, but they don’t want to be disciplined,” she continued.

Other top military personnel, including Lt Gen Syed Aamer Raza, the Corps Commander of Lahore, attended the conference as too.

Maryam, however, reaffirmed the determination of her administration to give Chinese nationals employed in Punjabi development projects impenetrable protection. The gathering denounced the Chinese engineers’ deaths in Bisham as well.

A suicide attack occurred last week as five Chinese engineers and their Pakistani driver were traveling from Islamabad to a hydroelectric dam construction site in Dasu, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. In Shangla area of Bisham city, there was an attack on the bus.

According to Maryam, terrorism has evolved into a challenging kind of warfare. “Terrorists are now using digital platforms, so we must stay ahead of them.” Terrorists also possess the newest equipment and weaponry. They possess US weaponry that they obtained in Afghanistan. The law enforcement forces have significant challenges due to the weaponry arriving from Afghanistan, the speaker stated.

The 50-year-old head of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz party continued by saying that terrorists are also indoctrinating and recruiting young people. Maryam said, “And social media is one of the major tools being used for the purpose.”

Shehbaz Sharif, the prime minister of Pakistan, gave all security agencies instructions on Friday to ensure that Chinese nationals working on different projects in the nation had impenetrable protection.

The prime minister decided to “personally review the meetings concerning the overall security of the country, especially the security of the Chinese citizens,” according to a statement he released.

According to Sharif, the fight against terrorism will not end until it is totally eradicated from the nation.
