Indore (Madhya Pradesh): After passing the Class 8 exam in the first division, Geeta, a lady with speech and hearing impairments who gained national recognition when she returned to India from Pakistan in 2015, has applied for a government job.
In the Madhya Pradesh State Open School Education Board’s Class 8 test, 33-year-old Geeta received 411 out of 600 points, according to officials on Wednesday. She was awarded special merit in social science and Sanskrit.
Since Geeta’s return from the neighboring country, Anand Service Society, a non-governmental organization with headquarters in Indore, has been working to assist her in reintegrating into society.
“Geeta is very excited about her exam result and is looking forward to her future with hope,” Gyanendra Purohit, the NGO’s secretary and a sign language specialist, said to PTI on Wednesday.
Purohit claimed that during a video conversation, Geeta expressed her desire to pursue her education in addition to working for the government using sign language.
“An eighth pass is the minimal educational requirement for hiring Class IV personnel for the federal and state agencies. Geeta can now apply for this kind of government employment,” he added.
According to Purohit, Geeta’s mother Meena Pandhare presently resides in the Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar region of Maharashtra. Geeta’s true name is Radha.
He claimed that Geeta wants to work to become financially independent because her family is impoverished. “According to her, she does not want to get married right now,” stated Purohit.
Geeta is thought to be 33 years old. She had stumbled onto a train as a little girl and crossed across into Pakistan over 23 years ago. Pakistan Rangers saw her seated by herself on the Samjhauta Express at the Lahore train station, authorities said.
The girl with speech and hearing impairments was adopted by Bilquis Edhi of the “Edhi Foundation,” a humanitarian organization in Pakistan, and she was raised in Karachi.
On October 26, 2015, Geeta was able to return to India because to the exceptional efforts of the late Sushma Swaraj, who was the foreign affairs minister at the time. She was moved to an NGO’s residential facility in Indore the following day. After locating her relatives in Maharashtra in 2021, Geeta has been residing there ever since.
