Description: To rebuild public confidence, he emphasized how urgently state governments must prioritize women’s safety and demanded prompt investigations and harsh penalties for offenders.

His comments coincide with the general outcry that followed the rape and killing of a female physician at a hospital in Kolkata. During his Independence Day speech from the Red Fort, Prime Minister Narendra Modi conveyed his profound worry about the increasing number of violent attacks against women in India.

To rebuild public confidence, he underlined how urgently state governments must put women’s safety first and demanded prompt investigations and harsh penalties for offenders. His comments coincide with the general outcry that followed the rape and killing of a female physician at a hospital in Kolkata.

“I would like to again express my pain from the Red Fort today. There is fury in the nation about the crimes against women, therefore as a community, we will need to give them serious thought. I sense this indignation, Prime Minister Modi said. He asked for serious consideration of these concerns by the nation, society, and state governments. “It is imperative to instill confidence in society to investigate crimes against women promptly and to impose strict punishments on those who carry out these heinous acts,” he continued.

The prime minister pointed out that while sanctions for such horrible crimes are important, they are frequently ignored by the media. “When a person of such monstrous tendency is punished, it is restricted to a corner, not seen in the news,” he said.

“It is the need of the hour that extensive discussion on those receiving punishment be held so that those committing this sin understand that this leads to hanging,” Prime Minister Modi said, emphasizing the need of public conversation surrounding these executions. I believe that instilling this dread is crucial.

His remarks were just a few hours before thousands of women from all walks of life were scheduled to assemble in West Bengal to voice their outrage over the most recent tragedy. In recent weeks, protests calling for the victim’s justice have erupted in several locations, underscoring the critical need to combat violence against women.
