Five third-year nursing students in Kottayam were imprisoned after harassing first-year students for three months. Allegations include physical abuse and coerced payments.

According to authorities, five third-year students were arrested at Kottayam’s Government Nursing College for reportedly harassing first-year students.

A case was opened in response to a complaint from three first-year students who stated that ragging had occurred at the nursing institute, which is part of the Government Medical College, for around three months.

According to the lawsuit, ragging began in November of last year.

Chilling revelations have emerged from the Kerala ragging case. According to a PTI story, pupils claim they were forced to strip naked and subjected to severe physical abuse, including having dumbbells strapped to their private regions. Compasses and similar tools were allegedly used to inflict injuries, with lotion applied afterward.

On December 13th, a first-year student was tied up, lotion thrown on him, and injured with a divider, while another student was made to videotape the assault.

Furthermore, the complaint alleges that senior students often attacked juniors and extorted money from them on Sundays, then used the money to buy alcohol. On November 16, the accused allegedly coerced a first-year student to deposit ₹300 via Google Pay and hand over ₹500 in cash with threats. Police confirmed that the money was used to purchase booze.

What did the college authorities say?

College administrators indicated that the pupils who were abused had not contacted hostel staff, professors, or parents.

When the college received the complaint, it swiftly took action. The suspected pupils have been suspended, according to college authorities. The action was taken following an investigation under the anti-ragging law.
